Salesforce Marketing Cloud - Parameter Manager
On today's Feature Friday, we'd like to introduce you to a small but nice new area in the Marketing Cloud setup: The Parameter Manager.
In this recently available setup point, tracking parameters can be set up yourself without having to ask for support assistance. These parameters are attached to the links of all emails that are sent from the respective business unit. Web analytics services such as Google, Webtrends or Coremetric can then in turn assign the links to a specific email, campaign or platform.

The Parameter Manager can be found under Setup > Data Management > Parameter Manager. There, the Web Analytics Connector (WAC) must first be activated. The string in which the individual parameters are linked (WAC string) can then be edited:
When defining the parameters, there are the following options:
- Static parameter: The same value is appended as a parameter in every email. This option can be used, for example, to mark all emails as originating from the Salesforce Marketing Cloud. example: utm_source=salesforce
- Parameter filled via AMPscript: Parameters can also be filled using AMPscript. For example, you can automatically attach the respective name of the email as a tracking parameter. example: utm_campaign=%%emailname_%%
- Additional email attributes: When editing the WAC string, you can also configure the Additional Email Attributes. The Additional Email Attributes are parameters that are manually assigned for each email, specifically in the properties area of the individual emails. For example, do you write the string in the Parameter Manager utm_campaign=%%__additionalEmailAttribute 1%% into the WAC string, appears in the email properties of all emails afterwards utm_campaign = as an additional email attribute, including an input field for the parameter value. Up to five additional email attributes can be assigned.
It was also possible to assign tracking parameters and set up additional email attributes before. However, until now, support always had to be contacted for the configuration and for any change to the WAC string.
With Parameter Manager, there is now an easy way to do this yourself, without long rounds of voting. We find that this significantly simplifies the setup process and subsequent adjustments and were therefore very pleased with this new feature.
