Salesforce Marketing Cloud - Content Builder FAQ Part I
In the coming weeks, we'll be turning to an area on Feature Friday that we're constantly being asked questions about: email creation in Content Builder. We're kicking off today with one of the most frequently asked questions:

What do I have to consider when inserting images?
Although uploading and inserting images into emails only requires a few clicks, there are a number of points to consider in this area in order to achieve optimal presentation in as many clients as possible.
The right size
When inserting images, be sure to click on the correct image size be respected.
The image should be at least as large as the image placeholder. Although it is possible to upload a smaller image and then enlarge it using the size specification in the interface, this leads to display problems in many clients.
But the picture shouldn't be too big either! Scaling does not change the file size of the uploaded image, even if it is displayed smaller in the sent emails. If you insert a very large image, emails can load extremely long.
Our recommendation: If you want the email to look good on Retina displays, but at the same time avoid too long loading times, it's best to use images that are exactly twice as large as the placeholder.
By the way, in a high-quality custom template, there should always be a size on the image placeholders — this information makes work much easier for end users.
What actually is this “scale to fit”?
The “Scale to fit” setting has an effect on the display in mobile devices. If you check this box, the image scales to the full width of the layout on mobile devices.
The right file type
In principle, the file formats .png, .jpg, and.gif can be used. However, the file format always also has an impact on the display. An icon with a white background doesn't look optimal in dark mode, for example — it can be useful to use a transparent PNG instead of a JPG, which then displays the background dark in dark mode. When using animated GIFs, you should be aware that many email clients only display the first frame. Ideally, you should clarify which format is optimal before setting up your own image database.
To be continued!
